Easy learning and entertainment

Took my 8yo daughter about an hour of fun and excitement to assemble the clock. Great way to learn the internal mechanics, how and why all the guts of the mechanical clock work. Smooth and easy assembly (all parts well fit; detailed instructions), also the mere order of assembly helps understand why every part is needed.Don't expect it to be real clock, of course - it's loud and probably not very accurate. As an education and entertainment piece, however, it's just amazing!

Lovely but loud

Fun for kids but not adults. Thankfully easy to stop the pendulum and the noise, but stops the time.

Pendulum did not work

This is George. I got this clock as a Christmas gift. It was a great gift idea for me. Unfortunately, we built the clock many times and each time, it would not run because the pendulum either disengaged and the clock went way too fast or gripped the gears too tight so the clock would not spin at all. I wish it would have worked.

Didn't work until I added a washer!

The following comments are from my husband who had me order this clock for our grandson...I repair old mechanical clocks as a hobby and a side business. I have two grandkids who expressed some interest in clocks. So I bought one clock for one grandson a few years ago and with my help he put it together and it worked fine. Then a few months ago I ordered another clock for my other grandson. Again I helped him put it together, but this time the pendulum would not swing more that a couple of times. Frustrated we requested our money back which we received. Amazon said we did not need to return it. However, since I repair old mechanical clocks, I took a closer look at it. I found that the yellow gear was rubbing against the red gear on the chain of gears going up to the pendulum. So I took it apart and put a metal washer that I happen to have on the backside of the yellow gear which then separated the two gears. In the attached picture I have circled the metal washer (on the left side). Once I did that then the clock worked fine! There are two other things that I did that I recommend. I sprayed a silicone lubricant on the gears (do not use a plain oil lubricant). Also, I drilled a small hole on the backside to be able to stop the red gear (in attached picture see the circle on upper right). This is needed to safely take the clock apart when the mainspring is wound. Stick a nail in the hole to stop the red gear from turning, then you can safely remove the anchor escapement at the top of the clock. Then when you remove the nail the gears will spin down. One other complaint I have is that the instructions & diagrams should be written better for kids and for adults who are not knowledgeable about how clocks work. Both grandkids appeared to learn a bit on how mechanical clocks and gears work so I recommend it despite the modifications that I had to do.

It was for my Granddaughter and she thrilled to be making it and using it in her bedroom.

Nice clock but it was a return as shipped

Nice clock, but it was a return because the packaging had been already opened and one of the pegs had been broken off so we could not attach the ringer. Otherwise a nice clock and good construction.
