Very good product, especially for use in water exposed areas and earthquake areas.
I bought these to use as uncoupling underlayment below porcelain tile in my kitchen, bathroom and living room areas. This is easy to cut, but is rather stiff. It takes some effort to get it to set down. Filling the topside prior to laying tile is a must, and I would recommend using a more dilute thinset to flow into the spaces. This will make it much easier to fill in. Laying tile over this is not difficult.

Better the 2nd time around with this product
Uncoupling Membrane is designed for floors that are not perfectly stable. For example, my house is on a raised foundation, not a concrete slab. The wooden floor joists and layers of plywood will have a slight flex when a person walks across them. Not noticeable to the person walking, but significant enough to form cracks in tiles, the larger the tile, the more likely. The 12 inch by 12 inch porcelain tiles in my kitchen have many small hairline cracks and a few larger cracks. When I installed those tiles I used sheet linoleum under the tiles for cushioning but it wasn't enough. It did take years for the cracks to appear but still, I loved the tiles and would be happy to keep them forever if the cracks had not happened. It looks pretty bad. Fortunately, the single sheet of linoleum has prevented water from seeping through to the subfloor. This protective sheeting should do the same with the proper taping of seams. All accessories needed to use this product should be available at your local builder supply store. This is the same quality product.

Super bad membrane - never buy
Grooves are so small that the heating cable doesn't go inside. We had really tough time installing the heating cable on top of this membrane. I had to spend lot of extra money with labor, more thinset and bcos the cable was on top of the membrane not inside the grooves, it was so difficult to manage the cable, and finally one of the heating cable got damaged during install. All the efforts, money wasted. Buy a good quality membrane if you're installing the heating cable. This membrane is simply not worth it.

Tile Underlay – Easy Flooring Lifesaver
I finally decided to tackle a DIY tile flooring project and chose to use this uncoupling membrane. It rolls out easily and is surprisingly forgiving, even for someone with my limited skills. The tiles lay smoothly on top of it, and so far, I’ve not experienced any cracks or regrets. Although it is a bit more expensive than basic backer board, I believe it’s worth it to avoid potential disasters down the road. Trust me, your sanity is worth the extra cost.
