Brilliant ferments
I read the reviews about these breaking but went ahead and I'm really glad I did. I sterilize with Milton and had a batch of red cabbage with garlic and caraway seeds going for 3 weeks. It's gorgeous, really tangy and very tasty. My first lot with white cabbage was ok, but not as good as red cabbage. According to taste obviously.. The jars leaked quite a bit when fermenting started but that is good news. I put mine in a tray so no probs. I put weights in and topped up to keep it going. Really easy to do and no worries about burping the jars. Very happy with the results and my gut is too. Great jars.

Excellent product!
These jars are first class! They do their job very well indeed! As long as you read the instructions before use, I can't see there being any problems!

Good but glass very fragile
Use these for making Kefir. Will not take hot water without cracking. I even tried heating water gradually in the microwave, to try to sterilise the inside and that cracked the glass onto my third one. Wish the manufacturer would make them from heat-resistant glass.

Fantastic jars, wonderful customer service!
These jars are so easy to use and are great for fermenting relatively large amounts of sauerkraut or kimchi. Simply put in your veg and other ingredients, according to the recipe, and forget about it for a couple of weeks. So much safer and easier than using jars with sealed rims that require burping daily, and therefore allow in air (plus airborne bacteria & mould). They also look highly attractive on the kitchen worktop packed with brightly coloured veg. These jars are perfect for adopting a healthy probiotic diet. Everyone should try this as a cheap way to make fermented foods and drinks that are otherwise highly priced to purchase.Whatever you do, don’t sterilise them with boiling water as they crack. I learnt this the hard way but was incredibly impressed by the customer service of this company as they very kindly and quickly sent me a replacement when I explained what I’d done. This level of customer service is incredibly rare, so where’s the 6th star option?

Very weak glassware!
No strength in the glass jar. First use for sourdough starter mix, jar cracked! Lid great, glassware zero. I had two from Lakeland plastic a couple of years or so ago which I was pleased with until I dropped one by picking up bye the lid when loose. Height wouldn’t have been 100mm, it broke into pieces! You live but don’t always learn!!! I can only presume Lakeland stop stocking because of breakages.

Fantastic jars that work a dream on soughdough starters.
Absolutely brilliant jars - I use these for my sourdough bread starters. After a "feeding", 4-5 hours later you see the starter bubbling away and can hear the gentle hissing and popping of the gases being released by the vent valve. They are a good diameter and short-ish height to fit well in the fridge too. Love them. The chalk pen and black labels are excellent too.

They're good, except that they break
What more can I say. They are a great idea and well designed with the wide top and the lid etc. They even look nice. But I've now had two of these just break while fermenting kraut and kimchi. they both cracked at the base, under very normal use. Have I been very unlucky? I broke another one because it slipped out of my hand. We will see how long number 4 lasts...I think it makes sense to look for stronger jars.

Impressed by the quality and design of the jar
I bought this fermenting jar to make my own sauerkraut and kimchi at home. I was impressed by the quality and design of the jar. It is made of strong glass and has a wide mouth for easy filling and cleaning. The lid has a silicone seal that creates an airtight environment for the fermentation process. The best feature of this jar is the one-way valve that automatically releases the excess gas that builds up during fermentation. This prevents the jar from exploding or leaking, and also keeps out oxygen and contaminants that can spoil the food. The valve is very easy to use and does not require any maintenance. I have been using this jar for a few weeks now and I am very happy with the results. My sauerkraut and kimchi are delicious and crunchy, and have a nice tangy flavour. They are also full of probiotics that are good for my gut health. I would recommend this jar to anyone who wants to try fermenting their own food at home. It is a great product that is worth the price.
