NO, Flo ...the Audix VX5 definitely will NOT work with a Stagepas 300, unless you provide it with phantom power from an external supply. (The VX5's a condenser microphone and this Stagepas system only supports dynamic mics that don't need phantom powering.)To my mind, life is far too short for us to endure that sort of clutter and inconvenience on the road, so here are links to two equally rugged alternative dynamic mics for vocalists, both of which offer a similar "condenser-like" sound plus great rejection of feedback and both of which definitely WILL work well when plugged directly into a Yamaha Stagepas 300:https://www.amazon.com/Heil-Sound-PR-Dynamic-Microphone/dp/B0014IK2IMhttps://www.amazon.com/Audix-OM7-OM-7-Microphone/dp/B0002H0M7WOf the two, I marginally prefer the sound of the slightly cheaper Audix OM7 - but Bob Heil's PR35 is also a wonderful vocal mic.

As AudioTopia says, Michael......"which setting is best" for you depends on the nature of the sound source you're picking up at any given time. Now, I'm guessing you've read the three Amazon reviews, so there are really only two other bits of information I can add.1) I largely use the -10dB setting on the rare occasions when a bad acoustic situation forces me to mic brass instruments "up close and personal", whereby the capsule's almost right in the bell of a given horn, be it a sax, trumpet, trombone or sousaphone. I've yet to encounter even a heavy metal screamer vocalist loud enough to require it, but there may be someone out there who can shout loudly enough to "clip" the mic's inbuilt pre-amp.2) Now and then, I've found the VX5's bass cut switch to be really handy for eliminating thumps whenever shock-mounting's impractical and/or for eliminating "whoomp" feedback - should it not be possible to "quarantine" its output from exciting subwoofers or other low frequency radiators.Given that last point - and that you intend using your VX5 for DJ vocals - I reckon it would always be worth exploring a signal path (via a mixer) that would allow ONLY your music decks to go to both subs and mid-tops, but (as AudioTopia has already commented) leaving both VX5 switches "flat".Also, in your situation I'd never contemplate using my expensive treasures without the protection afforded by something like an http://www.amazon.com/Stage-Foam-Ball-Type-Windscreen-Black/dp/B0002GXF8Q/.Another option you may find REALLY useful would be to have it "swing" via something like a http://www.amazon.com/NEEWER-Microphone-Suspension-Scissor-Stand/dp/B00DY1F2CS.Even though Audix mics are among the most rugged available, I'd also heartily recommend investing in the further "insurance" against thumps, bumps and drops provided by an http://www.amazon.com/Audix-SMT-25-Pencil-Condenser-Shockmount/dp/B003KRBBM6 ...regardless of the type of boom-arm or stand involved.(As I mentioned earlier, this type of well-engineered shock mounting also yields FAR more gain before the dreaded "whoomp" of bass feedback will show up.) Whatever you decide, I guarantee you'll find it hard to find another mic that can out-perform a VX5 in your set-up ...regardless of price !
