Efficiently scan 1000s of slides.

I’ve tried several ways of scanning slides before. But it was always a slow laborious process. With mixed results. This scanners design made it a lot easier. The slide adapter is a tray the runs through the middle of the device. You clip it into place, and then feed the slides through the tray by hand. Allowing continuous feeding of hundreds of slides. At any time you only have 3 slides in the tray. Vertical alignment is fixed. You use the previous and next slide to push the one you are scanning. To center it in the screen. This manual positioning is acceptable, but I would have preferred a fully automatic solution. Once you have aligned the slide you press a button to take a photo of it. This is fast and efficient. Takes a couple of seconds per slide. Some color balancing controls are provided but I just used the defaults. I did try the adjustments but it didn’t improve the output. I scanned 3000 slides in a week. Didn’t give me time to fiddle with settings. Slides are not square. If you have portrait images, you have to scan them in landscape, or it chops the top and bottom off. Thickness of the slide can be an issue. Kodachrome and Ektachrome cardboard and plastic slides are thin, but I had some really chunky plastic slides. These wouldn’t slide through the tray. I had to remove the tray, clamp the slide in the center of it, and then reinsert the tray. It worked for the odd slide but I wouldn’t want to scan a box of them. The majority of the slides worked fine. Some cardboard Kodachrome slides from the 70s were a little oversize, making them hard to push through. Picture quality is good enough. Speed of operation is more important to me. You don’t need to be connected to a computer while you are scanning. Just need a USB power socket. The cleaning brush supplied with the scanner is useless. I used a puffer brush to blow dust and debris off the slides before feeding them into the scanner.Im happy with the results so far.

Good for casual use and backing up photos. Not good for high quality images.

The Kodak Digital Film Scanner is a great option for quickly scanning film and backing up old negatives. It’s incredibly easy to use, with a straightforward interface that makes the whole process fast and hassle-free. Setting it up is simple, and you can scan a lot of negatives in a short amount of time, which is great if you have boxes of old film to digitize. That said, while the scans are decent, they’re not quite as high quality as I would prefer. The resolution is fine for casual viewing and sharing, but if you’re looking for professional-grade detail, you might need a higher-end scanner. Still, for convenience, speed, and general film preservation, it does the job well!

Improved slide scanning for me!

Very pleased with initial impressions of this device. Easy to use after 4-5 minutes familiarisation with the buttons (brightness and colour). Much faster scanning lots of slides than methods I've had in the past. Acceptable quality scans. The screen is big enough for you to see what you are doingThe manual says SDXC cards are not compatible, and there is a maximum of 32GB. However my SanDisk 64GB SDXC card is working perfectly well in it. I've got a lot of work to do - thousands of slides!

Some good results but feels clunky and out-of-date.

I bought the scanner to scan some of my Mum's old slides dating back over sixty years. I wanted to keep the images pretty much as I found them, so was not particularly interested in the limited manipulation the Slide n Scan offers. This scanner does scan some slides pretty well and I am delighted with one in particular item dating back to the 1960s. However, take note, this slide happened to be in a cardboard frame. The scanner won't take plastic and glass slides, nor some plastic slides from the fifties and sixties as their cases are too thick.Bear in mind that not all old slides are salvageable and will have degraded too much, but I don't feel this is the fault of the machine and is possibly too much to expect. The five inch screen is decent, but is difficult to see when sitting at a table.Connection with my Mac worked using the included USB C to plain USB but sometimes crashes the SD disk which is needed to store images. However note that the included cables do not include USB C to USB C.Design-wise the scanner feels like it has come out of the ark. Push buttons are too 'clicky' and the scan button feels like it might break at any point. Navigating around the options is do-able but, again, feels outdated. Scanning directly to a computer appears not to be an option.Loading slides and lining them up is laborious and fiddly, I am hoping that scanning from negatives will be easier. I haven't tried that yet.Overall, I find the Slide n Scan massively overpriced for what it does. Grit your teeth if you really need it. There didn't seem to be many other options.

Works great

Its great piece of kit. Simple to use and fast. inserting negatives can be a fiddly sometimes. The claimed resolution is not there, it cant be, not at that speed. Its ok for basic photos for social media but not for serious photographic work.

Slide Scanner

I have to say that despite many negative reviews I found this scanner to be excellent and it did the job easily and without fuss. I connected it to my TV using the Included HDMI connector and viewed the slides on the TV screen. They were very easy to scan, one touch of a button to save and as good quality as the original slide permitted. You need to buy a 32GB SD card and I also bought a SD card reader for my MAC.I’d recommend this product as easy to use and good value for money.
