Fits DHP futon
Had a DHP/Better Homes and Gardens wooden frame futon and broke a hinge, this bolted right up and works as good as new.

Worked with an old futon
The springs on the old futon (bought back in 1998) broke and the seat wouldn't set up. I thought I would try to replace the hinges before throwing out the futon. They fit perfectly in the current holes and it works like a charm. The only issue is that the new futon mattress is so stiff it is hard to position upright from the bed to a seat. I'm sure once the mattress wears in a bit, it will become easier.

Substantial/thick metal. Great replacement hinge. No instructions for the DIY builder.
For the price, this is a very substantial/thick metal piece of hardware. I cannot imagine easily bending these. It's very easy and common with a large futon frame to "tweak" or distort the hinges, and then they no longer work correctly. The hinges I received do not match the pictures. My left and right hinges are reversed the best I can tell. The description mentions the hardware "clicking", but the hardware I received does not click at all. In one swift motion, it goes from fully open to fully closed. Depending on how you build your frame, you can control whether the bottom of the seat is completely flat or tilts back 5 degrees or more. There is no intermediate position for use as a chase lounge. It's either fully open or fully closed. The horizontal rail height of your bed design would control the angle of tilt. Again there is no click or dentent to hold things in place.Without any instructions to follow or pictures, It's not 100 percent clear on how these would get installed in your own design to conceal the hinges. I believe the sides or arms of your bed design would need to extend at least as high as the hinges when they are fully open, i.e. bed position. For the seat position, they drop several inches, so would be hidden in seat mode. The correct distance front to back is somewhat of a mystery. To put it another way it's not exactly clear as to how to install these when designing your own futon. I would welcome some instructions for do it yourself designs as a guide line. The other thing I noticed is that I don't believe you can design a bed that is closer than about 6 inches to the wall. You need that much room for the pivoting to occur. In my case I was trying to design a couple of bench seats for an RV that face each other, that when folded would make one large bed. Because of the requirements, this significantly adds to the depth. Alternatively, I guess you could make the seat less deep. Most couches are in the 20 inch range and you would need to reduce that to 15 or 16 inches if the depth is a factor.None of what I'm mentioning here has to do with the quality of the hinges, which in my opinion is really outstanding. And I guess if you're just replacing a hinge from an existing futon, it would be a no-brainer. Buy them. If you're designing your own bed let's just say you'll have some challenges ahead of you.

Easy fix
This was easy to replace. The metal fatigued hinges on my futon needed replacement. It was a two person job to take apart the futon but the hinges fit perfectly. Hang on to original screws and fixtures if you don’t you’ll need a trip to the hardware store.

Problem solved
It works .. kind of irritating that I had to replace it … the packaging wasn’t very … premium … I wish I could leave A 9/10 review … however … the fact that it works (for right now atleast ^_^) makes me leave A 5/5

Better than original hinges
This item works for a popular style of cheap foldable sofas with wooden sides and a metal bed frame. I changed my old hinges to this one and can prove that these hinges are made better than the stock one, more thick metal, better (tougher) rivets, more accurate manufacturing, etc.Look like they only have two positions - Sit and open bed (no lounge), but I'm pretty sure that I saw the model here that can hold all three positions. Anyway - it works perfectly for my foldable sofa, and it is about ten times cheaper to replace broken hinges than buy a new frame.
