A Small Radio with a Big Sound!
I've purchased several Sangean radios through the years. I find their radios to be excellent. This is another winner! It's small. It fits in your hand. It's about 30% larger than a deck of playing cards. It reminds me of the transistor radios we had as kids growing up in the 50's and 60's. They never sounded this good! It's got digital tuning, which is precise. It has 20 presets for FM and 20 presets for AM. And it's got a great telescoping antenna. For a little radio the sound is great. (Remember, you're not buying a boom-box with a 15" woofer!) Also, I purchased on Amazon the "factory refurbished" model and saved a few bucks. It's like brand new, and it's good to know the factory went over it. Bottom line, if you're looking for a radio this size, look no further. Hope that helps.

very nice sound from a small radio
Bought this as price was correct for a HD capable tuning AM/FM radio , Sangean the better value and build quality among radio manufactures out in the market. Use 3 AA cells, comes with AC adaptor, memory settings, RDS for FM. All nice features in a hand sized radio. Happy with purchase as gift to myself. Note this was a company (Sangean) refurbished item.

Very portable HD radio
I was interested in HD radio since I first heard of it a decade ago. At the time, the availability of HD radio was limited, at least reasonably priced ones. The Sangean HDR-14 is reasonably priced and remarkably compact considering its features. The mono speaker has decent sound quality. You can connect the headphone output with a cable to an amplifier for high fidelity stereo sound. I like that the radio has the AM band, but I'm disappointed I haven't been able to receive even one HD AM broadcast. Ironically, it was on my favorite talk radio AM stations that I first heard advertisements for HD radio, but I can't receive any HD broadcasts on AM. However, there are a good number of HD FM radio stations in my area (within 50 miles from NYC). Actually, you can receive more radio channels on HD FM radio that are not available on analog radios. Some FM stations have additional HD channels. This radio also displays the station ID and song info. The Sangean HDR-14 includes an AC adapter for home use. I take it with me in the car running on AA (3) batteries. I much prefer using ubiquitous AA batteries instead of an internal battery. I love it. I have two of these radios. I highly recommend it.

Really the only pocketable choice for HD Radio
Even "Renewed" this is 2-4x the price of a non-HD pocket radio, including Sangean's own. You do get digital tuning and clock/alarm features like their other radios (some models less than this). The sound is quite good for a pocket radio. But, basically, new, you're paying $50 to get HD radio's extra channels. Unless you're critically listening with headphones or hooking this up to speakers that cost more than the radio, the main channel doesn'treally sound any better. (Get a long audio cable if you do. Oontz 3 BT speakers with a 3 foot cable interferes with reception significantly.)The one AM HD station I got sounded far worse (if in stereo vs mono). You probably won't enjoy HD Radio's HE-AAC compression if you are a critical music listener, anyway. I got this because there are some local HD2 and HD3 channels I was willing to pay to listen to, and it does the job. A couple of them require 10 ft of wire antenna out the window to pick up, though. If the signal isn't strong enough for solid analog listening, you won't get HD. One I could have streamed off the station's website, the other I could not. Also, it's a bit big, but you _can_ take this on a walk with you.Compared to some other radios, like a popular FM-only model, this one is a great analog radio. FM analog blends seamlessly with digital if signals get weak, and the AM has automatic bandwidth (hiss) reduction as signals get weak. It picks up FM stations with the antenna down that other decent radios require their antenna for.Apart from the price and size, it's a great pocket radio. If you want portable HD, it's really the only option.

Very good range
I bought this for my little brother on his birthday and he says it’s great quality! He has autism and Carries it with him everywhere! He’s been able to listen to stations as far as Canada and Texas. For context, we live in NC. Would recommend👍🏽

It feels really cheap
I struggled to find a HD radio receiver. It seems like Sangean is the only producer of home HD radios. I had one in my car and when I bought a new one, it didn't have a HD radio receiver in it. There are some really good radio stations in the HD format. I bought this one and the sound quality is so poor and I'm not an audiophile. I'm very disappointed in the quality of the receiver. It feels like the free radio you might get as a consolation prize. I would pay for a quality receiver, but I'm afraid to buy the next one up now. I actually paid much less for a Sony clock radio and the Sony clock radio sounds much better. It also stopped working after 3 months. It won’t turn on.

Sangean HDR-14 reconditioned radio is like a brand new radio for less
I bought this to replace a competing product that proved vastly inferior and overated which I had returned for a refund. The only sign that this was a recondtioned item was a small dent on the telescoping antenna tube. The performance and sensitivity are great. For such a small speaker the sound is clear and listenable but it sounds much better on earphones. You can't beat the value for the discounted price.
