Goose on The Loose (Usborne Phonics Readers)

Great rhyming and phonics, but story is boring.
The storyline is a little boring, but the rhyming in the book is great for all ages of beginning readers. We read it often when he was around 2, and now he is 3 1/2 years old, and we read it now as well. He likes it ok, but he really likes the rhyming.

Hilarious
My 15 month son loves this book. Of course it may have something to do with the main character being a goose. He loves geese. He also greatly enjoys the farm animals in the story. The flaps on the pages are easy to open and are very durable. At this time is unable to tear of the flaps unlike other flap books we own.

Cute, but nothing special
This book rhymes. I like that, and I understand it helps with phonics and verbal development. Unfortunately, the book really goes no where. My daughter is 17 months--she likes it ok, but is pretty bored with it already. She loves to open the flaps though. My next child will probably like it when he is young. I purchased this because I plan to start phonics with my daughter in the next year.

Excellent book for toddlers and new readers alike!
I was fortunate to happen upon this book--my 21 month old son loves it and asks for it by name every night. It's has the kind of story that keeps kids engaged, and has a fun ending that even parents will enjoy. The rhyming text makes it great fun for kids to complete sentences as we go. Plus, there is the added feature of there being a small duck bystander on nearly every page, which is great fun for children this age to find, over and over...

Goose is a good choice.
The bottom line is, kids love books with rhymes in them. My own children's favorite was a book with the unlikely title (I think) "Spinach, spinach. I love spinach." Goose on the Loose works too.

Name-calling
I was disappointed in this story. A goose is riding around on a scooter knocking people and things over. The humor relies on the goose knocking things down, which is not what I want to teach my kids. At the end, the animals say that they need to stop this "fool" (meaning the goose). I do not want my kids to think it is okay and funny to call people fools or any other kind of not-nice name. The behavior might be foolish but it is not nice to call someone a fool. My kids are young enough that these lessons are still a big deal and they aren't old enough to filter that kind of thing out. I realize that I am probably more uptight than many people about this type of thing, but if I had known this about this story, I would not have bought it. So, this review is for the other fuddy-duddies like me. :)

Ok book
I suppose the book itself is alright. I didn't see it mentioned here (or I missed it) but this book has flaps. My destructive kids can't read this book because of the flaps. In a few months (hopefully they outgrow this phase), we'll be able to introduce it into circulation. Until then, I wish I'd picked a different book.

Great begining reader book
This bok is great for a beginging reader. My daughter thought the storey was funny and the book challenged her just enough without making it to hard for her to get. It was the right amount of difficulty.

Excellent Series of Books!!!
Perfect for children learning to read! My child has memorised each page by relating the words with the illustrations. This book belongs to a series of books which teach phonics. Highly recommended as part of reading and comprehension

A bit Hard Vocab
I found some words a bit difficult for 4 year old.Appropriate age would be 5+. Quality of book is very good. Strong, sturdy and colourful. If you found my review helpful, please press helpful button.

Engamchan!!!

Goose on the Loose - mad hooligan goose
Not only do I love these books, but more important my grand daughter loves them too and knows the titles that we have bought and the ones we still have to purchase. The flash cards that go with this series are also favourites.
