I initially got this 12"x15" mat as an alternative to the Cricut Easy Press pressing pillow because of its slightly larger size. While it works great with my Easy Press, I've also used it with my heat gun. I've always been afraid of damaging the top of my craft table by holding the heat gun in one place for too long. This silicone mat has taken away that worry! My only complaint is the size in the product description says 12". The one I received is less than 11.5". Not a big deal for my purposes but if you want a mat that is a specific size, be aware the product description doesn't seem completely accurate.

I have used this mat with both my 12X12 manual heat press and my other automatic heat press. I like that it's mushy. I don't know if that's the appropriate word, but this mat is cushy soft and for me, it works best with a large heat press. I tried it with my cricut mini and it was a bad experience. Too small a footprint over a surface that contours to the heat press. It wasn't a good press. So for me, its worked best with my big presses. It protects the surface it's on. No heat comes through at all. I think it's definitely a good deal and a top-quality item.

This item isn't quite what I was expecting, but it works. I had assumed this would have the same type of surface as our silicone desk mats, and was surprised and worried when I opened it because the surface is textured, almost as though it was fabric coated. As the company mentions the smell right in their listing, as well as in the packaging, I can't say I was surprised that the mat stank when I opened it, but it was necessarily a few days before I could actually test it out and see if the unexpected texture was an issue.The reason I was concerned was the purpose I had ordered it for: ironing diamond art canvases, which have an adhesive coating. I had discovered after some experimentation that my silicone desk mat made a safe cover for the adhesive side while pressing the reverse side, and thought that a fully silicone pressing mat would be easier to work with than a silicone desk mat placed on top of my ironing board. After finally getting a chance to use it, I can confirm that it is ideally suited for that purpose. The adhesive canvas face did not adhere to the silicone mat in the slightest, but still retained it's full adhesive properties when I was finished with the job of pressing out the creases. I did several canvases on low heat/no steam with no issues, either with the job I had in view or with the solid wood desktop the mat was resting on getting overheated.I did not test high heat, but for my purposes, I'm satisfied with it. The textured surface of the mat did grip my iron a little and change the resistance when I was going past the edges of the product I was pressing, but I can always throw a fabric surface over the mat if I need to when pressing smaller objects. Don't expect to be able to use this the day it arrives, but otherwise, it's a solid product and I foresee no problems with it.

This silicone heat press mat not only helps to protect your surfaces, but it also helps with the adhesion of the sublimation (DTF) or HTV to clothing. The reason for this is because the both the silicone and the clothing are flexible. As long as you make sure that the shirt (or other materials) is perfectly flat and already pressed, then when you press down on your heat press the slight give will help the two materials merge together. The other reason is that the silicone will accept some of the heat and essentially give it back to the back of the shirt. You can not only simply lay the fabric on this heat mat, but you can also slide this mat between the two sides of the shirt to allow more heat transfer.
