Blocking mats are a good thickness and come in a set that includes 9 mats, T-pins, blocking pins, stitch markers, finger protectors, and a measuring tape. Chemical small when I unzipped the carrying case, so I aired out the mats for 24 hours. Worked well to allow smell to dissipate. Mats interlock, and have grid lines, including circular grid lines (for pi or half pi shawls). Lines match up well when assembled. Very happy with this purchase, and would recommend!

My first blocking mats. These were a good price for 9. They came with t pins.They are very thick as described and easily fit together. I read that the gri measurements on some mats are not accurate. These are. They have inch grid, a one mat circle grid and a 4 mat circle. The 4 circle mats are even numbered so you know how the put them together.I haven't tried other mats but I'm satisfied with these.

I really like the ease of pinning the project. The mats are firm, but easily accept and hold the pins.

Some reviewers have mentioned that the price of the premium blocking kit is too high. LAMXD has now added a basic blocking kit that doesn't include the multi prong pins or other accessories. If you get the basic kit, you can probably save some money by buying the multi prong pins yourself, but I wouldn't pass on them because they're helpful in blocking larger garments like sweaters or cardigans. The single pins work fine, but getting a consistent, straight edge is much easier with the larger pronged pins.The other accessories are fine if you're just starting out with knitting or could use some spare tools. But chances are if you're buying blocking mats you're already pretty deep into the rabbit hole and don't need any more sewing needles or tailor tapes. Since both sets come with the nice storage bag, I'd opt for the basic kit and purchase the multi prong pins separately.The foam blocks function as expected. They fit nicely together and the pins stay where you want them. The red and green theme is a little strange. I prefer the blue and white basic blocks without deer and designs on them, but some might find it endearing. It doesn't take away from how they function, though, so I have no complaints.

This is a 9-mat set fitting together flat like a jigsaw puzzle, that when put together correctly will make either a square or circle, 34” x 34”. The pieces are then used to “block” or pin down crochet, knit, or other needlework so that when it is unpinned (usually upon drying to allow the yarns to ease into a shape), will stay that same shape as when first pinned down.You will notice that when the mats are assembled, they are marked in perfect 1" interval intersecting lines, (better than most other mats I’ve owned, more on that later) so there won’t be that constant wonder of whether your corners or angles are true; or because the mats are also marked in perfect 1" interval rounds that perfectly intersect those same lines, there also won’t be the worry if any of your rounds or arcs are true. Each piece fits together with any other piece, and on any other side of any piece, nice and snugly and without any gaps that might be under your work. This is a set you will want to build onto and keep building onto. I will be doing that very soon!As an added hint, and because I am not used to working with a set of mats that measure so accurately, I printed a screenshot of the Amazon site showing some of the different layouts we can try using these mats, to keep with my set. I want to keep the printout for my own use, and also for my ideas to branch from.Now this ties in with the question of this set of mats and other mats I’ve owned (gray one in review photos) measuring a true 1" square. I really do not like and do not appreciate advertising or labeling of product that will lead you to believe something that is not true.THE LAMXD MAT SET DOES NOT DO THAT IN ANY WAY! Everything I have seen in this advertisement so far is true. As a former inspector, I tend to “over-check” everything. Anyway, back to the subject. It is the other manufacturers I have quarrel with. They will advertise a mat with 13 intersecting lines measuring 12" x 12". Now that would make someone think each of those squares would measure 1" x 1". Not always my friend. IT DEPENDS ON THE MANUFACTURER! Some manufacturers measure the 12" x 12" mat as the outside of the grid markings (Like our LAMXD mats do here), but others measure the outside of the ENTIRE MAT, including the jigsaw “ears” on either side. That would make each square smaller because now the outside of the grid is no longer 12” x 12” as a starting measurement. A lot of times buying this type of item online is a hit or miss unless you can read about it and see pictures of someone who has it in their hands. Also, as you can see in one of the pictures, it takes two of my old mats to equal up to one of my new LAMXD mats, thickness-wise.One thing to remember, because some manufacturers include the mat “ears” in the measurements, that would be why your mats often will not be able to work with each other.I hope my review and other hints help you!
