Awesome 80's Horror
A true 80's horror classic from two of the best in the business! Offered at a great price, too! It's weird seeing top comedy actors, and one of our best dramatic actors, in these twisted tales, but that just adds to the overall craziness on display. One of my favorites that's a lot of fun!

Much lauded horror anthology marred by sudden outbursts of humor.
One of 1982’s most successful horror films, topped by that summer’s 3-D blockbuster, “Friday The 13th Part 3,” “Creepshow” remains one of that storied, astute social commentator, the late and legendary writer-director George A. Romero’s anthology feature “Creephow” one of his most ambitious endeavors.A slick anthology homage to the heyday of 1950s E.C. Comic books, it is one of the late auteur’s most technically polished endeavors, based on Stephen King’s screenplay. (“Dawn Of The Dead” is his most accomplished work, a broad melange of “dead”pan, slapstick humor, a stinging indictment of consumerism, and simply a great Grand Guignol horror fest that retains its head-averting shock value to this day!)A much improved Blu-Ray makeover by Shout! Factory obliterates the initial bare-bones Warner Home Video HD release, this 4K makeover of “Creepshow” overflows with a plethora of documentaries, supplemental materials, and commentaries, all accompanied by an insightful 36-page booklet.Peppered with a who’s who of genre favorites (“The Fog’s” Tom Atkins, Adrienne Barbarbeau, and Hal Holbrook), Romero regulars John Amplas, Christine Forrest, actor/director & special make-up genius Tom Savini, an always excellent E.G. Marshall, Ed Harris, Fritz Weaver, and most memorably, a return to form from ZAZ prankster Leslie Nielsen. While much care has been devoted to the restoration of cinematographer Michael Gornick’s, beautifully gaudy elaborate visuals to a far better state than upon its theatrical run, the 5.1 sound mix leaves much to be desired.Kudos to whomever cast “Creepshow”’s most memorable role, Leslie Nielsen plays it a dead serious mode that he built his pre-“Airplane!” career on, shedding his comedic schtick for a largely sinister performance. As a scorned husband attempting to punish his unfaithful wife and his arrogant paramour, his work in the segment, “Something To Tide You Over” resonates here. This tale is by far the best, delivering a serious tone lacking in some sections of this omnibus. Walking the tightrope between comedy and horror hybridizations is one of cinemas most difficult balancing efforts, requiring a Houdini-like resolve, yet “Creepshow” still succeeds largely when laughs are restrained. And don’t forget the highly underrated sequel helmed by Gornick and this film’s composer and director John Harrison’s silver screen take on the Romero TV creation, “Tales From The Darkside: The Movie.” Disregard the little seen third installment and the recent series, instead focus on the rewarding merits of the aforementioned films.

Horror by the masters
This movie is a classic, done by some of the masters of the genre: George Romero and Stephen King. It contains vignettes that will alarm, scare, and horrify you. My favorites are the cheating couple that are caught by her husband, and the strange wager that's made. And the story of the germaphobe, and his untimely end. Get your popcorn ready, and be prepared for goosebumps. HPB comes through-again-and I can't see why I should buy from any other seller, the quality and prices are legendary! You already know: it's captioned.

One of my faves makes it to blu-ray [Updated]
UPDATE 10/25/18 - SHOUT Remaster: This edition's picture quality is a VAST improvement over the previous BD release, which was soft and suffered from a pronounced jitter (I referred to this issue previously as "wobble). For a film made in 1982, the PQ is sharp and the colors are great, with only a few scenes here and there showing more than the usual amount of filmic grain. Most scenes look amazing, and the picture is rock-solid, no jitter whatsoever. The sound is clear and crisp, but I agree with another reviewer's complaint about the HD 5.1 mix sound levels; I had to really crank up the volume to enjoy the movie until I switched over to the HD 2.0 track, which had more punch. This film was made over 35 years ago, and some productions of this age don't seem to lend themselves to a multi-channel adaptation, and there wasn't a tremendous benefit to the 5.1 mix, to my ears at least. That said, the 2-channel track sounds great. If you love this film as much as I do, this upgrade, though pricey (at this point), is definitely worth it.====================================================I have loved "Creepshow" since I saw it in the theater so many years ago. I loved horror comics as a kid, and this movie is the perfect homage to the genre; the stories come across as if they came straight out of "Tales From The Crypt", "Ghosts", "The Witching Hour", and so many others of my beloved creepy comics. Written for the screen by one of my favorite authors, Stephen King, and directed by horror master George Romero, "Creepshow" is, to me, pure horrific genius; this combination of writing and direction elicited wonderful "outside the box" performances from a very talented group of actors, and is what really makes this movie hold up even today as a terrific horror piece. I've lost track of how many times I've seen this film in its various media - theater, VHS, DVD, and now blu-ray, and it can still coax a jump out of me!The blu-ray itself is the best transfer I've seen to date, but it's still not perfect. There is some "telecine wobble" throughout the film, but it seems that may be inherent to the source material; it's been present in every version I've ever seen. Overall, however, I would say that the film looks very good; the colors are well-saturated, and the sharpness and contrast of the picture is generally quite good, especially considering the movie's age. There is some transfer debris, such as specks and scratches, here and there, particularly noticeable during "Something To Tide You Over", but it's still the best "Creepshow" has ever looked for home media.Horror fans, rejoice..."Creepshow" is finally home on blu-ray...can you watch it with the lights off?
