Just what I needed. I need to crush pills because my dog won’t just eat them and shoving them down her throat isn’t fun for either of us. Bought this to replace a marble version, but the pestle broke in half, and I needed to replace it. I really like this stainless version much better, I can get all the powdered pills out without leaving any of them behind. It was missing the brush, but it works great and is easy to clean.

It's solid, sturdy, and well made. Stainless steel can't be beat for easy cleaning and it doesn't absorb odors or hold onto residue in its pores. The base has good weight to it. It does a good job of crushing up cat chews and pills. The brush & lid are useful extras. The bowl is surprisingly large (a plus!) I would recommend to anyone in the market for a mortar & pestle set.

Use this to crush opal to make rings. Works wonderfully with the cover to keep all of the pieces inside. It has become dented fairly quickly, but doesn’t seem to affect the use of it.

I intentionally bought 3 mortars and pestle 'kits': One from this company (smaller 250ml mortar) and two 'kits' from another company on Amazon. The second company provided a large (350ml mortar) and a smaller (250ml) mortar.Here's the differences that lowered the score for this company's product: The pestle for this small 'kit' was about 5/16" shorter than the pestles from the other company's large AND small pestle (both were the same shape and size.) This company's pestle is (in my opinion) mis-shaped at both ends. The grinding end is noticeably flat on the grinding end and that end is also not shaped to closely match the mortar's inside shape. The handle end of the pestle is cut off flat, rather than rounded and it is shorter than the other company's pestles. This causes the pestle to be short in my hand and its flat edge is felt while grinding materials. All of this does not render the mortar and pestle unusable, but less effective in my opinion. (My hands are large and smaller hands may not notice any problem at all.)The mortar is nearly exactly the size and shape of the competitor's small mortar. No problem there. The quality of the metal for both mortar and pestle looks to be first-class. An additional plus for this compay's 'kit' is that it includes a rubber garlic crusher. The brush included is exactly the same as the competitor's, except black instead of white. You may want to do some comparison shopping for this item. Another very small consideration is that this company's product was packaged inside a lack-luster black and white colored box. The competitor uses very nice complex color boxes for both sizes of it's products.
