Flexible, durable, and all around great deal!
I don't write a lot of reviews, but I felt compelled to rave about this product. I have had it for 5 years now and works as good as the day I bought it. I have had a lot of label makers in the past, but they were always problematic, not very long lasting, and difficult to purchase additional tapes. Not with the Brother. I just ran out of black on white tapes and ordered more without difficulty.I have had the same batteries (6 AAA Duracell Procell) for at least a few years. I always pull one battery out when not in use and place it just inside the tape/battery compartment. This is always a good idea for any battery operated device to extend battery life. I also have a charger (I think purchased separately) just in case it might be needed. The flexibility comes in the various fonts which can be chosen and print format (single line, double line, etc...). This is the best and last label maker I ever owned or will own. I highly recommend it.

Perfect for me
Overall, this functions just like every other Brother label maker I've ever used.I do like the margin function to shorten the spaces between labels.I was a little skeptical of buying it because of the reviews, so I want to clear that up for those considering purchasing this, but are wary because of those reviews.1. The "wasted" tape. Yes, this label maker comes with only a sample cartridge. Please remember to buy extra cartridges when ordering. People complaining about the waste seem to have forgotten that the cutter is located deep enough in that a silly adult, or unknowing child, can't stick their fingers in there and cut themselves (about half an inch). This leads to a half inch of tape that simply must exist so you can get your label out of the machine. If you type one letter, print, then cut, and that half inch didn't exist, you'd never get the label you made out. This is a pretty basic safety feature. Brother isn't trying to rip you off by making you buy more tape. *I saw a lot of reviews where the folks wasted tape just to type something derogatory about the product. Was that really necessary?*Love the margin option. I've always trimmed down labels to fit where I'm putting them anyway, so taking scissors to the label doesn't ruffle my feathers.2. Power. Power cords aren't included anymore on a lot of things that can also be battery operated. It's not included here. I didn't buy the cord because I'm good with using batteries. I don't find that this device goes through more batteries than any other battery powered device that I own. If you use it more, it will burn through batteries faster. If you leave it on a shelf for 6 months, the batteries might be dead when you get it back out. Every device I've owned says to remove batteries if you're going to store it. *Also, like every other thing on the planet: Batteries not included. I put batteries in that I'd had for a while, and they were a no go. Fresh Duracells powered it right up! :)For the record: If you read the description toward the bottom, it clearly states that the power cord is sold separately.3. I had no trouble reading the screen at all. If you need a magnifier to see the screen, you might want to make sure you don't just need glasses or better lighting in the room you use it in. I know my husband can't read the display (he needs glasses), but my kids and I have no trouble at all with it in most rooms. The bedside lamp isn't powerful enough to illuminate it, of course. The screen is not backlit. It's a simple LCD display... Like a calculator. If you need the backlighting, there is another option for a screen that lights up.4. Tape binding up. I haven't seen this problem on this one at all, but I use a P-Touch at work, and I've had exactly two cartridges in the eight years I've been there bind up on me. It seems to be a fault in the cartridge, not the label maker. After installing a new cartridge, the problem was solved. Sometimes, things with a lot of moving parts have a single fault that causes them not to work properly. Nothing is perfect 100% of the time. After reading the instruction booklet included, working this was easier than working the P-Touch (that is no longer in production) at work. I also have more functions on mine than the work one has! ;)Bottom line: If you read the instructions, understand basic safety protocols, and realize that batteries aren't forever, you should have no trouble with this device.

Compact but all I need. (Except an AC adapter)
This is my3rd P-Touch label maker by Brother and I have loved them all—this one is no exception. The first one died after many years of use, the second one is going strong, and I purchased this one for use in a vacation home. There are so many helpful uses for these—labeling the electrical panel in the house, spices and canisters in the kitchen, wiring, instructions on certain appliances, etc. This P-Touch model is physically a little smaller and has fewer fonts and options, but it really still has a LOT to choose from—far more than I ever need. This one also differs in that the label cartridge is inserted into the bottom of the label maker instead of the top. The cutting lever is on the front instead of the side. Those differences don’t make this label maker better or worse—they are just differences from other Brother P-touch models I have owned. Although this one is smaller and more compact, it performs beautifully, and overall I am very pleased with it. There are, however a few things I do not like:The price has gone up a lot. I paid the same price for this smaller model that does NOT include an AC adapter, as I did just a few months ago for my larger fancier model that did come with an AC adapter. Luckily, I saved the AC adapter from very first label maker that died, so I did not have to purchase another one. I definitely prefer to use it with an AC adapter because it takes a lot of batteries (6 size AAA)—which can be an expensive additional cost over the course of time. The Brother brand of replacement label cartridges are also expensive. Luckily, there are some REALLY good quality compatible label cartridges out there, so I purchase those instead.Overall, I am very happy with this smaller label maker and I recommend it. It would be better if it came with an AC adapter, but at least they do provide the model number of the optional AC adapter so you can easily get one—you might have one of those already sitting at home from some other discarded gadget. It’s a common type of AC adapter used on many different gadgets.I write honest reviews to help others make informed purchases because I read reviews myself and I find them to be helpful. I hope that my review helped you.

Love it!
I love this label maker. I use it in my classroom consistently. It is super easy to use and pretty quick. The print quality is good. The only issue I have with it is the waste of space between labels. It uses a lot of tape with a ton of wasted space causing the need to purchase replace tape more often. I get it. Money but it’s frustrating when I can see the wasted space for no reason other than forcing me to buy more cartridges. That would be the only reason I wouldn’t recommend. I love the quality and features.
