Q: Can these be used in a car as a cup holder

no be cause they are cups so they are shaped as such.

Q: I would like to purchase these cups for plane travel, to put boiled water in.

It will be difficult to hold the cup after putting boiling water in it. They don’t have much insulation. It’s just a rubber holder so it will be hard to hold them with your bare hands.

Q: Are they steady when placed on table?

Steady enough, my friend uses them in her campervan..

Q: Has anyone had any issues with leaking?

I haven’t tried to carry them around with lids on - I personally wouldn’t use them for that, and just like them for sharing picnic wine, tea, etc. while stationary. Not sure this will help you but hope you’re happy whatever you decide!
