Icebreaker Merino Unisex-Adult Wool Pocket Hat

I bought this to replace a previous Icebreaker beany that had worn out.The original was no longer made and Icebreaker did not provide information on what they considered a direct successor. So I bought this pocket hat.It is warm and lightweight, but also smaller, not reaching the ears at all. This hat is unable to sufficiently cradle the head to stay on. It requires another hat to be worn on top to keep it in place. Maybe I have a large head without ever noticing before? Maybe smaller heads will fare better?On a higher level: Icebreaker has always struggled with the durability of their Merino wool products. This was compensated for by the high technical quality of said products. Every succeeding replacement I've bought has been more of a disappointment with the company's focus seemingly shifting more and more from technical excellence towards fashion products.

So I wanted a merino wool hat for various reasons- Keeps warm even when wet- Not cotton so does not freeze your sweat in similar way- Does not smell and is dries quickly. Breathable.- Light weight and can squeeze in your pocketI run trails so I required all the above mentioned features. I have also used it under my bike helmet for fat biking and it fits since it is not bulky. Great for backpacking or bikepacking where space is limited for gear. Also I have a small head so please keep that as reference pertaining to this review. Highly recommend for any winter outdoor activities. You can also use it as a layer if its below 15F so have another hat or balaclava on top of it. I will update this review after for durability etc once I use it for a year or so. Others complain about the tags on the inside. It does have tags. 4 of them. I suppose if you cut them out, you may be left with stubs. Perhaps they've improved the tags, because I tore them out, one by one, slowly, and everything came out cleanly. No tag-stumps were left. No seam threads broke in the process.I wish they still made the purple and charcoal color of my original hat bought a decade ago, but the quality is no worse.

Just what I wanted, gave it 4 stars b/c the hem is a lil tight, but if you wear it long enough without washing it stretches. Like I said the hem is tight and will leave a weird crease in your forehead after 15 minutes of wear.

This is a wonderful fall and spring hat. Not too heavy but two layers to break the wind on cool days. Buy it in a bright color: I've lost two in black, they just disappear and are gone because they are so light you don't notice when you drop them or leave them behind.

Buy this if you want to keep warm on a run. Really lightweight but so warm that my head will usually sweat during the run. I generally use it for <40F weather. Its great although I will generally reverse it because the grey is a better for how tight it is. The black will make you look like your wearing a swim cap during a run. I usually don't care too much but I look a little too intense if I wear this.

This hat is exactly what I wanted. I got it at the tail end of the season and haven't been able to wear it much but I live in my jacket pocket almost unnoticed. It's fit is great, and I like that it is reversible.

These were gifts- what a hit! They have cute color combos and stuff into a coat pocket so they’re always with you! Warm enough for NYC winter.

Nice hat but note, it is not really reversible. There is a large white 'care' label on the 'inside' which is sewn in to the seam and it would be impossible to fully remove it without damaging the hat. This is a ridiculous design fault given that Icebreaker overtly advertise the reversible colour combinations in the range. As a slim female the hat fits me fine & there is plenty of stretch room for someone with a broader head. However, I imagine it would be a tight fit on males, particularly if you have a big head :))

I really like this hat, it is thin/small and packs away nicely in to your pocket. I use it on the days when I'm unsure whether it's cold enough to warrant a hat as it takes up no space in my pocket and don't notice it is there. It is a snug fit but that's the way I like it. I would recommend.

Not reversible because of the care label sewn inside (on the grey liner) - as I knew prior to purchase - but nice quality black hat. Some say it's a bit tight but I am an average size male and it fits me fine.

Material is nice.... BUT!“One size” for me it’s mean fit to everyone. This hat have a bottom part which make a preasure even to my average had.“Double side” for mean then I can use both sides, in this had second side has a label (washing instruction) which is not so easy to remove. I worked hard with and any way white treads still rest visible.
