Superb La Sportiva
I bought two pairs of La Sportiva Approach hiking shoes back in 2015 and wore them during my Euro tour in 2018. And I was caught in several downpours while touring Rome and these La Sportiva shoes kept my feet dry all the time. La Sportiva shoes are all well designed and well made with quality material, superior to Solomon hiking shoes in durability and comfort to Keen or Merrill in quality. I highly recommend La Sportiva! As to waterproof, I have tried Ecco GTX, Clark’s leather shoes GTX, Hi-Tec waterproof boots ,Saucony Excursion hiking shoes TGTX and La Sportiva GTX hiking shoes ,Clark’s ,Hi-Tec and La Sportiva are of the best quality, submerged in rainwater for hours and my feet remain dry. But Saucony’s leaks and Ecco OK.

Best Low Top Hiking Boot Ever Made!
I live in one of the most remote areas in the lower 48 and spend all my time in the mountains. These are rugged and warm like a boot, but have a low top, and are comfortable like a shoe. I have bad knees so prefer to wear a low tops so my ankle can twist and bend, preventing my knee from doing so. But, it is almost impossible to find a heavy-duty low top that can handle the terrain of the Rocky Mountains for long backpacking trips and big game hunts. Then I found La Sportiva Spire GTX's. I have worn these for years now. I have the pair I'm currently using and at least one or two new pairs tucked away in the closet; I don't ever want to be without these shoe-boots ever again. In my opinion they are the absolute best. The sole is stiff, they are warm, but still have excellent breathability, they are 100% waterproof as long as you prevent moisture from coming in the top. They are truly the best of all worlds! My one complaint is the price tag. I pay it because they are worth it and still more affordable than a real pair of boots. I highly recommend these hiking shoes. I absolutely love them. For reference: If you've never worn La Sportiva they fit very similar to Nike's. I wear an 11.5 in both brands.

Fantastic shoes. Really well made. Way better than the Raptor 2’s.
Fantastic shoes. Really well made. Way better than the Raptor 2’s. The La Sportiva Raptor 2’s are not made as well as these because the soles are spongy and cheap materials in my opinion and lack foot support needed to truly hike miles and miles without foot pain. I think La Sportiva cut quality for profit in the Raptor 2’s. Save yourself the trouble and buy the Spire GTX shoes while they’re still manufactured. I stocked up and bought 6 pairs of Spire GTX and they were hard to find in stock. I think true hikers know the Raptor 2’s had quality cut for profit so stocked up on Spires. The Raptor 2’s kill my feet due to lack of a supportive sole. The Spires are solid—the Raptor 2’s are cheap soft foam/rubber soles without support needed to really hike far.

Great urban hikers, but a couple improvements would be nice.
These are great shoes for travel, when you may spend one day on the city streets and the next hiking a trail somewhere in the rain and mud.Pros: Very comfortable, excellent waterproof...ness/icity, stylish enough to wear just about anywhere (subjective).Cons: Expensive!!!, could use a better insole for higher arched peoples, round laces...must double knot.I like these a lot for hiking camping and travel. If they last the expense is worth it. I added insoles and elastic laces. I highly advise try before you buy.

Everything Needed in a Hiking Shoe
This hiking shoe has it all. It is very sturdy and supportive, comfortable, durable, protective, and stylish with Goretex waterproofing and great Vibran traction. Online pictures make this look like a trail runner, but make no mistake, this is a durable hiker with a protective (more rigid) sole, toebox and heel. It is very comfortable for a hiker. My feet are somewhere between regular and wide and found the Spire GTX to fit great with no break-in. I chose these over similarly priced Asolo based on the more forward momentum design. I'm not sure if it's the offset or curved toe or heel design, but this hiker really pushes my feet forward in an appropriate and natural way. I'm very happy with my pair of Spire GTX and highly recommend them.

Well built for terrain
These shoes are definitely not your average hiking shoe…very apparent in heal and arch design. Excellent traction.

Poor material qulaity
For the amount of money these costs, I thought they were going to be very well made. Within 1 week, the heel started to fall off. It's cheap styrofoam on the back heel.

Comfortable and light weight
These shoes are very comfortable and remain so even after long hikes. This is my second pair. The first pair got a lot of heavy use and the insert lasted about 7 months and were replaced. I frequently hike on wet muddy mountain trails and the shoes remained fairly waterproof for about a year. After a year the outer edge of the forefoot began to a-braid and the rubber on heels chipped off. At 18 months the shoes are wearable but leak and are not suitable for hiking. I love the comfort but the cost per mile is on the high end of boots and hiking shoes.
